What the Big Chop does
The Big Chop removes damaged, chemically processed, or heat-compromised ends to reveal the healthy natural hair underneath. For coils, kinks and curls (Types 3C–4C), we cut away relaxed or broken lengths and shape the remaining hair into a modern tapered silhouette that balances density and curl clump on top.
Outcomes are governed by how much length is removed and the curl pattern you bring to the chair. Expect tightened, cleaner lines at the sides and back with more height and defined curl shape on top. This is a clear reset for transitioning naturals, those recovering from damage, or anyone wanting a bold, lower-maintenance short style.
How we shape your silhouette
Your stylist begins by assessing your curl pattern, density, and the amount of processed hair to remove. Those observations guide choices about side and back taper depth and how much length to preserve on top so the finished silhouette looks proportionate and keeps natural curl movement.
Decisions are practical trade-offs: a shorter tapered side reduces daily manipulation but calls for scheduled upkeep to maintain proportions. We recommend maintenance every 4 to 8 weeks to keep the tapered sides and neckline sharp and to preserve the intended top shape as it grows.
Aftercare and maintenance
Because precise care helps curls look their best after a big cut, we recommend pairing the Big Chop with a clarifying and deeply hydrating wash plus a curl-defining styling session. Note: shampoo and styling are not included with this service; if you want a coil or rod set, please book that service in addition to the Big Chop.
Asili’s Pikesville location on Reisterstown Road is convenient for commuters and local residents balancing busy family schedules. Climatic shifts in the Mid-Atlantic can influence moisture needs and styling choices, so regular trims and targeted hydration keep the cut looking intentional through hot, humid summers and colder months.
